Updating Google Chrome

In Google Chrome, click on the vertical ellipses button in the top-right corner.
Click on ‘Settings’.
On the left hand side, click on ‘About Chrome’ at the bottom of the list.
If prompted, tell Chrome to check for the latest updates. Chrome may automatically begin checking.
When updates are installed, you should be prompted to ‘Relaunch’ Chrome or restart your Chromebook.

Google Classroom

Students will access their assignments, turn in completed work and connect with their teacher using Google Classroom. The tutorials below will show you how use Google Classroom’s features to turn in work, keep track of daily classwork, and more.

Turning in your student's weekly attendance

Go to your main teachers Google Classroom.
Click on the Classwork tab.
Open the weekly attendance assignment for the current week.
In the area labeled ‘Your work’, open the linked file.
Complete the attendance form by adding your initials and any special notes.
The attendance sheet will save automatically. Return to the assignment page in Google Classroom and click Turn In.

Private Comments vs. Class Comments

Google Classroom Guardian Invites

As a guardian, you can get email summaries about your student’s activity in Classroom. Email summaries do not include grades.
In email summaries, you can review:

Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
Class activities—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.

If there’s no activity to report or if a teacher turns off email notifications, you might not get an email summary.

How will students access Zoom?

Students will be given a Zoom link for each of their classes in Google Classroom. They can access the class Zoom meeting by clicking the link and following the prompts. Additional information on how to access Zoom can be found here.

When will students switch over to using Zoom?

Your student’s teacher may decide to begin using Zoom as soon as Monday, January 11th. Contact your child’s teacher for more information.

Should my student create a Zoom login?

No. Zoom’s terms of service prohibit anyone under the age of 16 from creating a Zoom login. Students do not require a login to participate in Zoom meetings, nor should they access a class Zoom meeting using a Zoom account that belongs to a parent or another adult.

Does my student need to have the Zoom app installed on their learning device?

No. Students can access their class Zoom meeting using Google Chrome. However, if the app is already installed on their device, they may have access to more features.

Where can I find instructions on how to access Zoom?

Zoom provides documentation on how to access a Zoom meeting using the web browser and the app on several device types here. Additional resources and support can be found on the MSCS Tech Help page.

Is there an alternative to Zoom?

Certain families have family members whose devices cannot run Zoom due to the secure nature of their work. Please contact your child’s teacher to let them know that your student cannot use Zoom on their device.
