Festivals
As a Waldorf-inspired school, Mountain Song festivals are a vital part of our Education. The festivals provide nourishment to the individual and bring the community together in meaningful ways. The festival is an anniversary that brings to a community the richness of story and song, light and food, and celebrates our shared humanity while marking the passage of time.

Festivals We Celebrate
and Why
Rose Ceremony We hold this ceremony on the first and last day of school, marking the transition from one stage of life to another with the passing of a rose between the 8th and 1st graders.
Festival of Courage A traditional Waldorf festival celebrated as the summer warmth and light dwindle, bringing challenges of the darker season ahead. Our students look inward for courage, truth & strength to overcome these challenges. We mark this festival with a school-wide obstacle course.
Stone Soup Harvest Festival This festival, hosted by our Parent Circle in late September, shows what community can do when they come together to share what they have,
Día de los Muertos This is ancient tradition from Mexico that honors the lives of loved ones who have died and also celebrates the gift of life. Together, we create colorful ofrendas (offerings) in honor of deceased loved ones.
Lantern Walk This tradition, invoking a sense of hope beauty and wonder, marks the end of the autumn harvest and the advent of wintry weather. Our younger students light lanterns, sing beautiful songs, and share autumn treats.
Winter Spiral As the Winter Solstice approaches, we hold this quiet reverent festival and reflect on the past year and prepare for the next.
St. Nicholas We celebrate an archetypal figure that represents generosity, wisdom & service as we approach the holidays. Our own St. Nicholas surprises and delights our youngest students with little treasures.
Winter Faire Celebrated on a Saturday in early December, our community works together to create magical, memorable moments for our children and families.
St. Lucia On December 13th families across the globe celebrate Santa Lucia Day, or the Festival of Lights. This beloved European tradition is meant to bring hope and light during the darkest time of the year and mark the beginning of the holiday season.
Hanukkah (3rd Grade) Hanukkah, also called the Festival of Lights, is a joyful celebration of an ancient miracle and the survival of the Jewish people.
Lunar New Year Spring festivals, typically celebrated in China and other Asian countries beginning with the first new moon of the lunar calendar, and ending 15 days later on the first full moon.
