Katherine Smith, First Grade Teacher

My first introduction to Waldorf was when my daughters began attending Mountain Song way back in 2013. In no time, I was volunteering in classrooms and helping set up the school library. Eventually, I started subbing, worked as a Classroom Assistant, and finally became a Classroom teacher. I led a class from 1st through 3rd grade, which Mrs. Blum continued through 8th grade. They just graduated last spring!

During the 2020 pandemic, I stepped away to spend more time with my family. Over the past five years, I’ve worked as a private tutor, substitute teacher, and full-time teacher in D2, where I taught 1st, 2nd, and 5th grades. I also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education from Western Governors University.

My husband and I met at the University of Kansas back in the 1990s, and recently celebrated 28 years of marriage. We moved to Colorado Springs in 1999. Our oldest daughter, Madeline, will begin her Freshman year at CU Boulder soon. Our youngest, Claire, is starting her Junior year at Cheyenne Mountain High School.
