Tracy Gonzalez, Lead Handwork Teacher

Ms. Tracy has been here from the start, since Mountain Song Community School  was a dream she had for her son and for the Colorado Springs community. In 2012, Ms Tracy taught a Waldorf- methods Parent-Child class to try to help gain interest and support for starting a Waldorf Charter school in the Springs. She also taught a Compassionate Communication class to six 2nd grade students (her son being one of these along with 5 other children whose parents were working together to make MSCS a reality). This small group of students did not yet have a Waldorf school so Ms.Tracy and the other parents started a Waldorf-methods home-school co-op. They rented a room at Grace Church downtown and parents took turns teaching various passions while organizing to make MSCS come to life. One of Ms Tracy’s first large tasks after CSI agreed to charter MSCS, was to order all the books and create our library. She was our first unofficial Librarian and loved every minute of it as children’s literature is one of her passions.

Ms Tracy, having early childhood background in both private Waldorf and public schools, started her Mountain Song experience as a Kindergarten Assistant in 2013. She has held a variety of positions over the years at Mountain Song... Kinder Assistant, 1st Grade Assistant, Paraprofessional, Lead Handwork Teacher. She has been loving teaching handwork since 2021. She is currently pursuing her Waldorf Handwork Teacher Training Certification.

Ms. Tracy is passionate about all things handwork….knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, needle-felting, sewing, mending, reusing/ re-purposing as well as meditating, grow-biointensive mini-farming, singing, storytelling and candle-making. Her dedication to developing fine skills in our students, a love of creating and a deep sense of ecological responsibility through the Waldorf pedagogy is so valued.

She has two Australian Shepherds, Juno and Kanani, who want to be mentioned here as they provide many, many stories for the children to hear. They are happy to contribute shenanigans for MSCS student enjoyment.
